About
The Department of Anatomy, Diphu Medical College was established in 2019 after the college became functional on 25th November, 2019. The first HOD of the department was Prof. (Dr.) Bijon Ch Dutta. Under the leadership of Prof. B.C. Dutta, a renowned anatomist with 35 years of experience in teaching anatomy, the department flourished. He started his career as a Demonstrator at Assam Medical College, Dibrugarh in 1985 and later became Professor and HOD of Anatomy at Silchar Medical College before joining Diphu Medical College. He was a postgraduate teacher with more than 12 years of experience as Professor & HOD. Additionally, he served as a regular MCI assessor and Coordinator since 2010, assessing more than 170 postgraduate and undergraduate courses. He was also a member of the Board of Specialist (Anatomy) in the National Board of Examination, New Delhi.
The department is housed on the ground floor of the Academic Block Building of Diphu Medical College.
Infrastructure
- The department has a museum consisting of embryological models, models of different parts of the human body to aid in undergraduate education, soft tissue specimens, charts, posters, and photographs.
- A departmental library equipped with textbooks and reference books primarily related to anatomy. The library also serves as a seminar room with a seating capacity of 50-60 students and is equipped with modern audiovisual teaching aids.
- The department includes:
- Two demonstration rooms.
- One well-equipped modular histology laboratory.
- One research laboratory.

- Embalming of Dead Bodies:
- For dissection purposes.
- As a public service for bodies that require transportation.
- Awareness programs for body donation to encourage teaching and research.
- Undergraduate classes (MBBS) for 100 students per year.
- Cadaveric Dissection Sessions for undergraduate students to enhance practical anatomical knowledge.
