About

"Vision is the art of seeing what is invisible to others."

Ophthalmology is a branch of medicine and surgery that focuses on diagnosing and treating various ocular (eye) disorders through conservative management or surgical intervention.

The Department of Ophthalmology at DMCH began its outpatient services on November 28, 2019, offering diagnosis and treatment for a wide range of eye conditions. These include refractive errors causing poor vision, conjunctivitis, keratitis, uveitis, and screening for cataracts, glaucoma, diabetic eye diseases, and pediatric eye conditions like Vitamin A deficiency.

In addition to outpatient care, the department is fully equipped with staff and facilities in the Inpatient Department (IPD) to provide comprehensive treatment for admitted patients.

Research & Academic Activities

Currently, the department functions as an undergraduate teaching unit. In addition to student education, we plan to expand our academic activities by organizing departmental and interdepartmental seminars, Continuing Medical Education (CME) programs, and workshops on various ocular health topics.

Services

Beyond providing tertiary care services at DMCH, the department actively engages in community outreach programs by organizing eye camps in remote areas of Karbi Anglong district. Our goal is to prevent blindness and improve vision quality through community screenings, preventive programs, and curative treatments. The department also offers opportunities for research on various eye diseases.

Awards & Achievements

We are committed to achieving excellence in ophthalmic care, education, and research, continuously striving toward our goals.
